Treatment for: Infections The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the marketing of the antiparasiticagent tinidazole, a compound related to metronidazole tindamax. Presutti Laboratories Inc tindamax. will sell the new drug under the brand name Tindamax. The FDA-approved labeling for the drug describes three uses: the treatment oftrichomoniasis, giardiasis, and amebiasis tindamax. For trichomoniasis and giardiasis, the treatment regimen is a one-time tinidazoledose of 2 g tindamax. Amebic dysentery is to be treated with tinidazole 2 g daily forthree days, and amebic abscess from amebic hepatitis requires 2 g daily forthree to five days. The contraindications to the use of tinidazole are similar to those for metronidazole tindamax. Persons with a hypersensitivity to metronidazole or another nitroimidazole derivativemust not take tinidazole tindamax. The safety of the drug when taken by pregnant womenhas not been studied. As with metronidazole, tinidazole users should not consume alcohol tindamax. Concomitantuse of a nitroimidazole derivative and alcohol can cause abdominal cramps, nausea,vomiting, headaches, and flushing tindamax. Whereas the product labeling for brand-namemetronidazole states that alcohol should not be consumed for at least one dayafter the last dose of drug, tinidazole users should wait 72 hours after thelast dose. Tindamax will be available in two strengths of film-coated tablets tindamax. Initiallythe 500-mg tablets will be packaged in 20- and 60-count bottles and the 250-mgtablets in 40-count bottles. |
